Dr. Yukari Yano, Assistant Professor of Piano, joined the faculty at Truman State University in August, 2007. She teaches piano, harpsichord, accompanying, and all levels of the Basic Keyboard Skills courses. Dr. Yano received the Bachelor of Arts degree in Piano Performance from Kyoto City University of Arts in Japan. She completed the Doctor of Music degree in Piano Performance: Accompanying/Chamber Music at the Florida State University, where she also earned a Master of Music in Accompanying and a Harpsichord Certificate. Before coming to Truman, she served as an Adjunct Instructor of Piano and Accompanist/Coach at the Gulf Coast Community College in Panama City, Florida. Her primary teachers include Yasuko Tasumi, Gary Smart, Carolyn Bridger, and Karol Louwenaar.
Originally from Japan, her extensive performance experience includes piano and harpsichord solo recitals, as well as chamber music and vocal accompanying recitals in the United States and Japan. As a winner of the Florida State University Young Artist Competition and Doctoral Concerto Competition, Dr. Yano performed with the University Philharmonia and the University Symphony Orchestra, respectively. She also won the Rotary Club of Tallahassee Chapman Piano Competition. Other awards include the Dissertation Research Grant at the Florida State University. She also participated in the Internationale Meisterkurse Trier in Germany where she studied with Wolfgang Manz.
