At Truman State University, Graduate Teaching/Research Assistantships are awarded to outstanding students who are pursuing the degree, Master of Arts in Music. For pianists, GTRA assignments are available in Accompanying and in Applied Piano. Depending upon the department's needs, the assignment could be in either area, or it could be a combination of both. The contact hours per week are not to exceed 4.5 hours. The course offerings for the MA (Piano Recital Option) include: a minimum of 6 hours of applied study (with an option to take an additional 3); a 2 credit Literature and Pedagogy of Piano; a 3 credit Graduate recital (50 minutes of music); 6 credits of electives in music in addition to the 15 credits of graduate core studies in music (please refer to the 2003-04 General/Graduate Catalog for a complete description of course offerings and degree requirements).
