Selected performances are streamed using the network standard Real Time Streaming Protocol (rtsp) in Apple QuickTime format.

Tips to Successful Streaming
While the data rate is nominally 200 kbps, it actually varies over a range of about 180 kbps to about 240 kbps. This delivers audio content at very close to CD quality, and video content at Internet (low to medium) quality. Live streaming media requires a stable, high-bandwidth network connection, and a relatively high-performance computing platform. Because of the high data rate, we recommend that you use a wired connection and limit the number of applications running on your computer while viewing our web casts.
In order to access the streams, you will need the following capabilities:
-
You must be using either Mac OS versions 9.2 through 10.5, or Windows versions XP, Vista, or Windows 7.
-
You need the most current version of Apple QuickTime Player supported by your operating system. You may download the latest version here.
-
You must have a fast Internet connection, either DSL or a cable service-based connection. (Wired recommended for a more stable experience.)
Additional Information
-
If after entering the event your stream appears to be locked up, you may want to close the window and re-open the stream. You may also want to close any other applications running on your computer simultaneously with the streamed event, such as e-mail or other web pages.
-
Please remember that the video quality is only low to medium in order to provide all users with a stable streaming experience. Higher video quality requires an extraordinary amount of bandwidth, and not all Internet service providers can accomodate the large amount of data required for a higher quality video.
-
Broadcasts are usually opened a few minutes before the performance starts. You may want to log in ahead of time to ensure that you have the most recent version of QuickTime in case you have to complete any updates before viewing the performance.
-
During Intermissions, the broadcast will continue. It may appear that the performance is over, however, the broadcast will end at the close of the concert and will remain "on" during intermission. There is no need for you to log out during intermission.
-
Not all computers or Internet service providers have the bandwidth to view live streamed events. If you are experiencing difficulty, it may be due to constraints of your network or computer. We strive to provide an optimal experience for our patrons, but cannot guarantee that all persons attempting to access the live event will be successful.
There may be other media client software capable of decoding and playing Real Time Streaming Protocol. However, we have not tested and do not support other clients.
