Current Clarinet Students

Alyssa Blackford is a second year music education major from Swansea, IL.  She was first chair clarinet in the Illinois All-State Orchestra and third chair in the Illinois All-State Band.  She also won the John Philip Sousa Award and participated in the Bi-State Music Festival and the St. Clair Music Festival.  Her hobbies include running, playing guitar hero, drawing and reading. amb4452@truman.edu

Jenny Brown comes from Gladstone, Missouri, where she played in the All-State Band for two years and in the All-District Band for three years.  She also participated in the Kansas City Youth Symphony for three years, was drum major of her high school band, and won the John Philip Sousa Award. She is a second year music major who enjoys sports, video games, movies, and hanging out with friends.  She is double majoring in psychology and plans to pursue graduate studies in music therapy. jmb6212@truman.edu 

Katlyn Caddell is from Belton, Missouri.  She was selected for the All-State Honorable Mention Band and is currently a second year music education major.  When she's not studying or practicing, she likes to hang out with friends. kdc6675@truman.edu

Jennifer Canfield is a first year music education major from Lebanon, Missouri, where she played in the All-State Band and the All-District Band, and received the John Philip Sousa Award.  She stays busy practicing clarinet, studying, and babysitting three young children. jmc7485@truman.edu

Jenny Choo comes from St. Louis, Missouri, where she played in the All-State Band for two years, the All-District Band for three years, and was a member of the St. Louis Youth Symphony Orchestra.  She is a second year piano performance / pre-accounting double major who also enjoys playing the clarinet and online computer games.  jgc4114@truman.edu

Samantha Crouch comes to us from Columbia, Missouri.  She was participated in the All-State Band, the All-District Band, and she received the John Philip Sousa Award.  She is a mathematics major and her hobbies include playing clarinet, watching movies, and hanging out with friends. smc3226@truman.edu

Jonathan Davis is from St. Louis, Missouri. He won "Outstanding Soloist" at the ABC Solo Contest his junior year of high school and was in the District Honor Band his junior and senior years. He is currently a junior accounting major and music minor. Jonathan likes to spend his free time reading, running, and watching movies. jad2444@truman.edu

Kaisey Donner comes to us from Peoria, IL where she qualified for All-State Clarinet, All-District Choir, and received the John Philip Sousa Award. Kaisey is a senior music major who plans to enter the MAE program at Truman. She enjoys reading as well as anything Star Wars related. kmd988@truman.edu

Lynn Dreisilker is a first year clarinetist from Wheaton, IL who is pursuing a business major and a music minor.  For four years, she participated in the All-District band and she was the drum major of her high school band.  When she's not playing clarinet, she enjoys competing on the golf team, watching movies, and playing ultimate frisbee. led7877@truman.edu

Heather Ernst is from St. Louis, Missouri, where she played clarinet in the All-State Band for one year and the All-Suburban Band for four years.  She is a first year English major and music minor who enjoys swimming, drawing, reading, and writing in addition to playing clarinet. hme1534@truman.edu

Darlene Gollaher is a second year clarinetist from St. Louis, Missouri where she participated in the All-State Band and the All-Suburban Band, and received the John Philip Sousa Award.  She is a biology major and a music minor.  Her hobbies include tennis, ping-pong, and listening to the radio. drg2266@truman.edu

Ken Goss is from Lebanon, MO where he was an alternate for the Missouri All-State Band. He was awarded a Truman Undergraduate Summer Research Grant to study Klezmer clarinet playing and he was recently selected to present his research at the 2009 National Conference for Undergraduate Research in Wisconsin.  He graduated with a BA in Music in December, 2008 and is now pursuing the MAE degree at Truman.  He enjoys tuning pianos, fixing instruments, and setting professional pyrotechnics shows. krg420@truman.edu

Becky Harman comes to us from St. Louis, Missouri. She is a senior music education major and she is currently serving at the Vice President for the Truman chapter of CMENC.  She likes to read, hang out with friends and watch movies in her spare time. rmh336@truman.edu

Andrew Korte is a first year clarinet performance major from Oakville High School in St. Louis, Missouri.  He was selected for the All-State Band and All-District Band three years in a row, and he received the John Phillip Sousa award.  His hobbies include playing video games, watching movies, and collecting comic books.  He plans on pursuing a graduate degree in music business. amk5373@truman.edu

Jill Kuanfung comes from Wildwood, Missouri just outside of St. Louis. She was a member of the Missouri All-State Band and she received the John Philip Sousa Award in high school.  She was selected as a finalist for the 2008 Truman Gold Medal Concerto Competition.  She is a junior music minor who enjoys painting, drawing, and climbing trees in addition to playing clarinet. jkk8275@truman.edu

Aileen McKenzie is a junior music major from Wildwood, MO.  She was a member of the St. Louis Youth Symphony and the Webster Community School of Music's Young People's Concert Orchestra. At Truman, she performs with the wind symphony and the orchestra, and she's double majoring in health sciences. Erin Miesner is from Perryville, Missouri where she was in the All-State Band for four years and was a finalist in the Paduch Symphony Concerto Competition.  Erin is currently a senior working towards a BM in clarinet performance. She was selected as a winner for the 2008 Truman Gold Medal Concerto Competition and performed the first movement of Bolcom's Concerto for Clarinet with the Truman Symphony Orchestra.  She received Honorable Mention at the 2008 Missouri MTNA Competition in St. Louis, MO and was a finalist for the Delta Symphony Concerto Competition in Arkansas.  Recently, she was awarded the William E. and Helen Fitzsimmons Orchestral Scholarship.  She enjoys reading and playing chamber music with the Quintagious Five Woodwind Quintet and the Truman Clarinet Quartet. ehm450@truman.edu

Jennifer Murray is from Florissant, Missouri, where she was a member of the St. Louis All-Suburban Band and the Missouri Ambassadors of Music.  She received the John Phillip Sousa award and the Outstanding Senior Musician award.  She is a first year music education major who enjoys sewing, reading, and listening to music.

Laura Reynolds comes to us from Lee's Summit, Missouri, where she was in the All-State Band for two years, was a drum major, and received the Arion Award as well as a clarinet scholarship. She currently performs with the Truman Wind Symphony, the Truman Orchestra Symphony, and is drum major of the Truman Marching Statesmen. Laura is a senior music performance / education double major and her hobbies include drawing, playing basketball, and buying shoes. lar651@truman.edu

Eric Schweizer is in his final year at Truman pursuing both a BA in clarinet and a BM in saxophone with a jazz minor.  He received the Presser Scholarship, won the Truman Gold Medal Concerto Competition, and was selected to receive a Truman Undergraduate Summer Research Grant.  He comes from St. Louis, Missouri and his hobbies include cooking, martial arts, and video games. eschweizer87@gmail.com

Kayla Smalley is a second year music education / German double major from O'Fallon, Missouri.  She played clarinet in the All-State Band for two years and the All-District Band for four years.  She was a member of the St. Louis Youth Orchestra and she received the John Philip Sousa Award.  She enjoys playing hacky-sack, chatting in German, writing, and listening to music.  kms2342@truman.edu

Kelly Walker is from Platte City, Missouri where she received the John Philip Sousa Band Award. She is a senior music education major and she was recently awarded the Marion and Lucille Dillinger Woman Band Director Scholarship.  She is currently serving as the Secretary/Treasurer for the Truman chapter of CMENC.  Her hobbies include photography, playing sports, and reading. krw784@truman.edu

Lucas Willsie comes to us from Bucklin, Missouri, where he was performed in both the All-State Band and the All-District Band.  He is a first year music education major who enjoys hanging out with friends and participating in anything having to do with music.

Recent Clarinet Alumni

Alison Dahl is from West Chicago, IL. She graduated from Truman in May 2007 with a BA in Music, and is currently pursuing graduate studies in music education and conducting at the University of Central Florida. Jamie Hardesty-Heil earned a B.A. in Music from Truman in May of 2005, and graduated in 2006 with a Master of Arts in Education degree. She is currently working as an Assistant Band Director in the Kearney School District. Her teaching responsibilities include the high school symphonic band, eighth grade band, ninth grade band, as well as a the junior high jazz class. She also maintains a private clarinet studio and is an active performer in the Northland Symphony Orchestra and local community bands.

Dana Mottet came to us from Brighten, Iowa where she was in the All-State Band in 2001 and received the Alpha C. Mayfield Foundation Scholarship in 2004. She also received the Hearst Fine Arts Music Scholarship in 2005 and the Marion and Lucille Pillinger Woman Band Director Scholarship in 2006. Nabil Pettit is originally from Mexico, Missouri, and he is currently living in Kansas City, where he is a freelance accompanist and piano teacher.  In 2007 he was selected to participate in the Aspen Music Festival, and he won the Truman Gold Medal Concerto Competition in 2006. He graduated from Truman in 2009 with a BM in piano performance and enjoys reading, computer games, and playing the clarinet. njp558@truman.edu

Lisa Rubenthaler came to us from Wichita, KS where she was a member of the Kansas All-State Band for two years. She graduated from Truman in May 2007 with a BA in Spanish and a music minor. Lisa completed a Masters of Elementary Education and teaches fifth grade outside of NYC. She recently won a Fulbright Grant to teach in Madrid, Spain.  She loves to travel and has visited most of Latin America and parts of Europe. rubentli@shu.edu

Shino Saito is originally from Toyko, Japan, and came to us from St. Louis, Missouri where she was an All-State clarinetist her senior year. She graduated from Truman in May 2006 with a BA in Music and Communication Sciences.  She was a finalist in the Truman Gold Medal Concerto Competition in 2006.  Shino is currently pursuing a MM in Clarinet Performance and Arts Administration at the Florida State University. Sebastian Speer is from Aurora, IL. He graduated from Truman in May 2006 with a BA in Music and after working at the Illinois Mathematics & Science Academy as a Resident Counselor, now resides with his wife in Tallahassee, FL. Aaron Stewart is from Kansas City where he was in the All-District Band on bass clarinet for two years. He played principal bass clarinet in the Truman State Wind Symphony for four years. Aaron recently graduated with a Master of Arts in Education degree and is currently a band director in Lebanon, MO.  He enjoys working on cars, skiing and football. aaronrstew@yahoo.com

Jennifer Tullmann is from Webster Groves (St. Louis), Missouri.  She was a member of the All-Suburban Band for three years and performed in the Young People's Concert Orchestra.  She was a soloist for the Missouri Lions All-State Band and a woodwind instructor for the Webster Groves School District.  She graduated with a BA in music in 2008 and is currently pursuing masters degree in musicology at the University of Kentucky.  She enjoys hiking, cooking, dancing, and playing with animals.  jat221@truman.edu

Angela Welker came to us from Cape Girardeau/Jackson, Missouri where she was a member of the All-State Band. She received a Truman clarinet scholarship for four years and graduated with a BA in music in 2008 and a MAE degree in 2009.  She enjoys swimming, running marathons, and she is currently residing in Denver, CO.  amw422@truman.edu
