The Truman violin/viola studio consists of 18 majors and two graduate assistants.  Students come from throughout the Midwest and include many former members of All-State and major metropolitan area youth orchestras, among which are a former concertmaster and principal viola of both the St. Louis Youth Symphony and Missouri All-State Orchestra.  Dr. McClure's students perform annually as finalists in the Truman Concerto Competition and from 2001 to 2007, six different students were selected as winners of the competition performing the following concertos: Glazunov, Walton (viola), Mozart (#3), Vaughan Williams (Lark Ascending), Paganini (#1), Bartok (viola), and Prokofiev (#2).

International students in the violin/viola studio have come from Italy, Australia, Japan, and Hong Kong.  Students of Dr. McClure hold teaching positions throughout the region and have also been accepted at leading graduate schools, conservatories, and summer festivals including Indiana University (full scholarship-masters), New England Conservatory (masters), University of Wisconsin-Madison (masters), DePaul University (masters), Scuola di Musica di Fiesole, Italy (scholarship recipient), Aspen Music Festival (full fellowship and scholarships), Orchestra Giovanile Italiana (Italian National Youth Orchestra), and Newcastle Conservatorium of Music, Australia (violin and conducting faculty).  Many of Dr. McClure's students have participated in Truman-sponsored semester and/or full year study abroad programs at universities and conservatories in Italy, Spain, and France.

Dr. McClure sponsors visiting violin and viola master classes and recital or concerto performances each semester.  Visiting artists have come from Italy, Australia, Japan, Korea, Ukraine, Israel, and throughout the U.S.  Recent guests include Alberto Bologni, Kanako Ito, Gregory Sandomirsky, Geoffrey Michaels, Oliver Steiner, Elizabeth Holowell, Giora Schmidt, Peter Chun, and the Quartet Accorda.  Violin concertos performed with the University Orchestra as a part of visiting artist residencies include those of Beethoven (Bologni and Michaels), Tchaikovsky (Schmidt and Ito), Bruch (Bologni), and Mendelssohn (Steiner).
